European Financial Crisis
Expert meeting, 10 January 2011
A debate on the financial crisis among experts took place at the 10th of January in the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. The aim was to broaden the knowledge base on the relationship between the development of contemporary capitalism, worldwide deregulation, and the role of the European states in this development, and to analyse the actual (unsophisticated) means for the re-regulation of the financial markets in the European Union.
Discussants were:
• Pedro Páez (President, Ecuadorian Technical Commission for a New Regional Financial Architecture and Former Minister of Economic Coordination of Ecuador)
• Jürgen Klute (Member of the European Parliament (GUE/NGL) and Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs)
• Trevor Evans (Professor of economics at the Berlin School of Economics since 2006. He is a member of the coordinating committee of the European Economists for an Alternative Economic Policy in Europe)
