François Houtart: Multiple aspects of the economic crisis: going beyond the parameters of capitalism
Lecture, Brussels, 17 March 2009
François Houtart scrutinizes the multiple roots of the global economic crisis and criticizes the mainstream analysis of the current situation. Deriving from this critique François Houtart highlights alternative ways of tackling the crisis beyond Neokeynesian approaches which have recently become so en vogue, even among neoliberal thinkers.
François Houtart is professor emeritus of the Catholic University of Louvain, founder of the Tricontinental Centre (Louvain-la-Neuve) and the Journal “Alternatives Sud”. He is Executive Secretary of the World Forum for Alternatives and special delegate of the Chairman of the General Assembly of the United Nations in the UN Commission for the Reform of the Financial and Monetary System (headed by Joseph Stiglitz).
