Jürgen Roth: "Gangster Economy" and Organised Crime

The book reading on the 15th of March 2011 was cancelled

Gangster Economy: Some economic and political actors have liberated themselves from the democratic social contract and act according to the mafia logic. There are good reasons to argue that influential bankers, entrepreneurs, and politicians actively support this culture of illegality in the international financial system, because they profit from it. More and more members of the political and economic elites perceive the principle of legality, ethical consciousness and constitutional values only as necessary performance in the media democracies.

Jürgen Roth, born in 1945, is an investigative journalist, specialized in the issues of corruption and organized crime. The “Rheinische Post” considers him as one of the leading authorities on these subjects. Since 1971, Jürgen Roth publishes TV-documentaries and books. His new book “Gangster Economy” shows how the political and judicial system in Germany protects criminal structures, how supervisory authorities are weakened, and how the moneyed elite cooperates with the criminals.

Prof. Dr. Lothar Bisky: Professor for Cultural Studies, President of GUE/NGL in the European Parliament, and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Education in the European Parliament.
