Thomas Schulz: The European Sculpture
Rosa’s Salon, Brussels, 15 July 2009
The European Integration and the changes of the political and economical landscape in Europe are in the centre of the artist Thomas Schulz. He accompanies the development of Europe towards a “spacious political sculpture” with acoustic and photographic installations, taking examples like the construction of the British Channel and the buildings of the European Parliament in Brussels. Schulz denominates borders and illustrates the process to overcome them – between the demarcation lines of the former inner-German border on the one hand and the flight of the storks – the heraldic animals of Strasbourg – on the other hand. Sound and image installations penetrate these borders of functional speech, gestures and activities.
